All formats availableHow Shorts Thumbnail Extraction Works
YouTube Shorts introduce distinct URL formats and aspect ratios that often cause traditional downloader tools to crash or fail.
Shorts URL Resolution
YouTube Shorts URLs follow the youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID syntax, often accompanied by tracking parameters like ?si=xxx. GetyThumb's intelligent regex parser instantly isolates the clean 11-character video ID without redirection lag.
Vertical vs Horizontal View
Even though Shorts are presented vertically (9:16), Google's backend generates and caches all video covers as full 16:9 widescreen images (1920x1080 or 1280x720). GetyThumb exposes the complete original wide frame so you don't lose side details.
100% Mobile App Friendly
Whether you are sharing via the official YouTube iOS or Android app, copying the link from the Share Sheet is all you need. Paste it straight into GetyThumb on Safari, Chrome, or Firefox for instant 1-tap download.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common queries regarding YouTube Shorts and mobile thumbnail extraction.
Can you download thumbnails from YouTube Shorts?
Yes! While the YouTube app does not allow saving Shorts covers directly, GetyThumb extracts the underlying video ID from the Shorts URL and pulls the original uncompressed image stored on YouTube CDN servers.
Why are Shorts thumbnails stored in 16:9 if the video is 9:16 vertical?
YouTube stores all video thumbnails in standard 16:9 landscape dimensions (1920x1080 or 1280x720). The mobile app simply crops the center area to 9:16 for display. GetyThumb provides the complete original image so no details are lost.
Does GetyThumb work on iPhone and Android mobile browsers?
Yes, GetyThumb is 100% responsive and optimized for mobile devices. It works smoothly on Safari, Chrome, Samsung Internet, and Firefox without requiring app installations.
